Watering Holes: Montero’s

September 6, 2011

Since 1947 Montero’s has held residence on Atlantic Avenue in what was then known as South Brooklyn.  An area with a reputation for being busy and catering to sailors, Montero’s was and is no exception.  Inside you’ll find 64 years worth authentic maritime  memorabilia, nearly all donated by patrons and their boats.  The walls, shelves and bar are lined with life preservers, model ships and old photos.  While paying a visit, it’s easy to get lost in everything.  To this day I find something new hanging on the walls or tucked in a shelf.  Everything inside has a story, there’s no bells and whistles, it’s all the real thing and how a bar should be.

Opening day, 1947.
