Post Op Assistance

September 1, 2011

Now several days after Hurricane Irene made land fall in New York City, many within the five boroughs were spared the brunt of her destruction.  After reading up on coverage in the Times and seeing the toll Irene has taken, I came across a brief write-up about sailor who held his ground.  Bill Drankwater is among the lucky ones who came out unscathed.  Bill lives on his 33-foot wooden hulled boat docked inside Flushing Bay, where against persistent urging, he weathered the storm.  When his friends suggested he evacuate, Bill’s response, “No, I’ll go down with the ship if I have to.”

Although a compelling story, many didn’t share the same fate.  For those who weren’t as lucky, here are some links where people can help.
