Eyewear Report: Persol 2979s

April 11, 2011

I’ve long been a fan of Persols and about 18 months ago I finally pulled the trigger on a pair if 714s.  Yes, the initial motivation and inspiration was The King of Cool, but to my credit I thought these glasses were holding back no punches in their own right.  I love their shape and compactness, available thanks to the folding arms and bridge.

I have and will forever love the 714s, but after a year and a half, I finally realized that these things just don’t work well on my face.  Prior to 714s, Club Masters and Wayfarers were the eye-wear of choice, and the hunt for a Persol alternative was underway. Insert the Persol 2979.  The 2979s have a classic, Wayfarer-esque shape that not only fits to perfection, but won’t ever become out dated, making them the perfect alternative to my 714s.

Nice! I’ve been meaning to get a pair of 2979’s at some point myself. I just haven’t found the right moment.
Perhaps when I rebuild a classic motorcycle or something…
