Building the Empire State

November 12, 2010

Iron workers completed their portion in 1930, and the building’s overall completion came during May 1931.  All 1,250 feet of The Empire State Building stood as the tallest building in the world for over 40 years, and is again the tallest in New York City.

Awe inspiring. How many workers were killed during construction? History must record.

Fantastic photos. The nice little picture book “Men At Work” by Lewis Hine originally published in 1932 features similar shots of the construction of the Empire State building along with men working in coal mines, heavy industry & factories.
    Thanks for sharing.
